Although he broke into the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings and played 1,037 regular season games and 53 matches in the Stanley Cup playoffs with six teams, power forward Wayne Simmonds will always be most associated with the Philadelphia Flyers. “Simmer” spent most of eight seasons (2011-12 to the 2018-19 trade deadline) with the Flyers and enjoyed his greatest career success in the orange and black.
On April 12, 2024, Simmonds signed a one-day contract to return to the Flyers. Wayne’s wife, Crystal, was on hand along with their three children and Wayne’s mother, Wanda Mercury. On April 13, Simmonds was honored in a special pregame ceremony.
At the culmination, Simmer dropped the ceremonial opening faceoff with longtime Flyers teammate Sean Couturier and former Devils teammate Hischier in the center ice faceoff circle.
In honor of Simmonds wearing uniform No. 17 in Philadelphia with honor and distinction, here is a retrospective on 17 signature moments during his eight years of playing for the Flyers: Click here.
