Alumni Weekend 2024 was a smash success! Roughly 60 members of the Flyers Alumni attended the 2024 edition of our annual Alumni Golf Invitational event at Dupont Country Club on June 24, 2024. The previous evening, despite a torrential rainstorm, 50-plus Alumni attended an Alumni-only dinner event at the Wells Fargo Center.
The full list of attending Flyers Alumni was as follows: Bill Barber, Frank Bathe, Frank Bialowas, Jesse Boulerice, Willie Brossart, Dave Brown, Lindsay Carson, Greg Carey, Jeff Chychrun, Bill Clement, Steve Coates, Riley Cote, Doug Crossman, Scott Daniels, Barry Dean, Andy Delmore, Gilbert Dionne, Marc D’Amour, Brian Dobbin, Gary Dornhoefer, Todd Fedoruk, Adam Hall, Al Hill, Paul Holmgren, Ed Hospodar, Mark Howe, Ross Fitzpatrick, Ron Flockhart, Bob Kelly, Orest Kindrachuk, Mitch Lamoureaux, Ian Laperriere, John LeClair, Michael Leighton, Neil Little, Dave MacIsaac, Kent Manderville, Terry Murray, Phil Myre, Bernie Parent (did not golf), Brian Propp, Mark Recchi, Zac Rinaldo, Don Saleski, Dave Schultz, Al Secord, Dennis Seidenberg, Patrick Sharp, Chris Therien, Tony Voce, Jim Watson, Joe Watson, and Pete Zingoni.
Other participants included legendary Flyers public address announcer Lou Nolan, radio play-by-play broadcaster Tim Saunders, as well as Hockey Hall of Fame broadcaster and former beat writer Al Morganti, and various members of the Flyers Warriors hockey program.
Shortly before the start of Monday’s golf tournament at Dupont Country Club in Wilmington, the Alumni presented the latest fully customized adaptive bicycle donation to a special-needs younger from the Delaware Valley. The donation is part of the Alumni’s signature “Every Child Deserves a Bike” program.
Adaptive bicycles can be quality of life changing devices for children dealing with conditions such as cerebral palsy and progressive muscular degeneration disorders. Unfortunately, the bicycles have to be custom-built, often cost upwards of $7,500 and are not typically covered by insurance despite their therapeutic benefits. The ECDAB program, which is funded by Flyers fans and private sector sponsors builds and donates adaptive bikes to local children. The program operates in partnership with Help Hope Live and won a Business Journal of Philadelphia award in 2023.
The Alumni Golf Invitational is the Flyers Alumni Association’s single biggest and most important fundraising event of each year. It enables the Flyers to make large donations to Snider Hockey and other charities as well as providing a nest egg toward the ongoing operation of ECDAB, the 12 Days of Christmas holiday giving program and the development of other Alumni fundraising events and community programs.
The first multi-day summertime Alumni weekend was held in 2019. After brief interruption by the pandemic, it returned. It’s a great way for Alumni to get together with old teammates who may no longer live in close geographical proximity and also to meet Alumni from other eras, all while helping to raise money for worthy causes.
Come 2025, Alumni Weekend will feature a new signature event on June 22. On June 23, 2025, the Alumni will hold the next Golf Invitational.
