Dave Brown NHL profile

Dave Brown is a physically intimidating presence that left a mark on the ice. The massive Canadian spent 14 seasons in the NHL taking his enforcing style of play to multiple teams. On October 26, 1987, against the New York Rangers, Dave Brown cross-checked Tomas Sandström in the face. This broke Sandström’s jaw and left him with a concussion. Brown was suspended for 15 games, at the time, one of the stiffest suspensions ever.

Dave Brown was born October 12th 1962 and was drafted in the NHL Entry Draft of 1982 by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 7th round, 140th overall. Dave spent 2 seasons as an assistant coach for the Flyers, directly after his playing career. He then became a scout for the New York Rangers from 1998 to 2003 before being promoted to the Director of Professional Scouting. He held that position from 2003-2006. Dave came back to the Flyers organization becoming the Director of Player Personnel (2006-2013) then became the Director of Pro Scouting (2013-2022) and now he is a member of the scouting department.

Brown played 14 seasons in the NHL. Starting with the Flyers, then going to Edmonton where he won the Stanley Cup with the Oilers. He then came back to the Flyers for 4 years, before ending his career by playing one season for the San Jose Sharks.
