DonateSeventh all-time in penalty minutes in NHL history, Berube was one of the most respected and feared fighters over the course of his 17-season NHL career. Was adept at switching hands mid-fight, As a veteran player, he was regarded as a team leader wherever he played. After his playing days, Berube coached the St. Louis Blues to the Stanley Cup championship in 2018-19.
Born December 17th, 1965, Berube signed onto the Flyers as an undrafted free agent on March 19th, 1986. He debuted in the NHL March 22nd, 1987 and didn’t take long to let the league know the type of player he was. He recorded 16 penalty minutes, including two fighting majors in his first game. Berube solidified his spot in the starting lineup and went on to be top ten in the league in penalty minutes over the next two seasons. Berube is 7th all time in NHL history in most penalty minutes.
Berube spent 17 years in professional hockey across multiple NHL teams. He started with the Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and then went to the Washington Capitals. He then went back to the Flyers, then again to the Capitals, and then onto the Islanders, finally finishing up his career with his second stint on the Calgary Flames.
