Stu Grimson Player Profile

A study of contrasts between his on-ice and off-ice identities, Grimson was one of the NHL’s most feared heavyweight tough guys of the late 1980s to early 2000s. He took all of the league’s top fighters and was a terror on the ice. Away from the rink, the soft-spoken, articulate Grimson is a practicing attorney and devoted family man.

Born May 20th, 1965, Grimson’s NHL career began in 1988. Grimson was an ideal enforcer. His play style, combined with his massive stature, struck fear into his opponents and earned him the “Grim Reaper” nickname.

Grimson played his final game December 12th, 2001, but didn’t officially announce his retirement until June 1st, 2003. Grimson played across multiple teams starting with the Calgary Flames and then spent 3 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks. After Chicago, he had the first of two stints with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, then went on to the Detroit Red Wings. He was then apart of the Hartford Whalers and their move to becoming the Carolina Hurricanes. Stu would then go back for his second stint with the Mighty Ducks and then would wrap up his career with the LA Kings and Nashville Predators
